Last year's PWC Under 15 Boys and Girls Basketball Leagues were packed with excitement! On Saturday nights the stands were filled at the CIBA court (across from Kirk Supermarket) as eight boys and girls teams battled for basketball supremacy and looked great while doing it.
Spectators formed affiliations with teams as their uniforms represented teams in the NBA. Players seemed to raise their levels of play just to live up to the excitement of wearing their NBA team jerseys; and who could ask for a more spectacular finish that the championship match when David Powery made a clutch 3 pointer, falling out of bounds to beat the buzzer and clinch the championship for the Assassins? Parents and fans flooded onto the court like winning a game during March Madness; who knows what is going to happen this year!
This was all made possible by of the generous support of PricewaterhouseCoopers, who sponsored the leagues and have boldly announced their continued commitment to youth basketball by agreeing to sponsor the event again this year. The tournament is set to begin on March 28th; the children are ecstatic and the parents are eager! This tournament is essential to the development of youth basketball; it provides an organized, positive environment in which players of CIBA's Under 16 program can implement the skills taught to them over the previous months.
Nick Freeland, Senior Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Cayman said: "We're delighted to continue PricewaterhouseCoopers support of the under 16 boys and girls basketball league. Supporting youth sports programmes is one of our Community Service Committee's top priorities. We are extremely encouraged by the excellent participation in this league and the opportunities if affords our youth to excel in this sport.
Once again the league is set to begin on March 28th and games will be played every Saturday at the CIBA Court, located across the street from Kirk Supermarket on Eastern Avenue. Games will take place at 5 p.m., 6p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m. respectively.
