The AFL Cairns Preseason Cup will have an international flavour this season with the Papua New Guinea Mosquitoes to fly in for the competition in March.
The Mosquitoes will base themselves in Cairns for 10 days while the cup is played over two weekends at Cazalys Stadium.
AFL PNG chief executive Andrew Cadzow expects his side to be well matched talent-wise to the AFL Cairns Clubs.
"I expect we will be more than competitive at Cairns club level," he said. "The ideal conditions for us are wet or hot because the boys can just run. The only times we have really been undone when we travel is when we play against the taller sides who attack the footy in the air. We're more used to getting the footy on the ground and running it. We probably feel more comfortable in offence as opposed to defence, so there shouldn't be any lack of goals scored.
