BROTHERS VS YEPPOON
Brothers had a day to forget, after a tight 1st quarter Yeppoon started to get on top in the 2nd quarter but still only went into the main break with a couple of goal lead. The Roos would have still liked their chances having shared much of the play, however once again failing to apply scoreboard pressure.
After the main break, Yeppoon ran riot and buried Brothers with 15 second half goals, while Brothers only managing 2 of their own. Yeppoon could have taken the foot off however they didn't which shows the growing maturity of the side.
Top performers for the Swans were Dan Watkins (7 goals), Sam Nicholls (3 goals), Matt Wallin and Leeland Gribble. For the Brethren it is hard finding any positives, but Scott Smithwick, Tom Granleese and Dave Scott tried hard.
Prediction: Yeppoon by 41 points
Result: Yeppoon by 111 points
PANTHERS VS BITS
If the contest wasn't dead by quarter time it was by half-time, with BITS kicking 13 goals to Panthers 1 and the writing was on the wall for a big lose. Panthers were no match for BITS, with the Saints midfield clearing the ball with ease and providing plenty of goal kicking practice for their forwards.
In the 2nd half, the Saint backline continued to get cold with Panthers only managing 1 more goal for the game while themselves piled on a further 18 goals. The usual suspects did the damage for the Saints with John Beirouti adding 13 goals to his rapidly growing season tally, well supported by Adam Rakip, Nathan Shiphard and Adam Dickenson.
For Panthers, Liam Kronk, Matt Ryan and Shannon Roati tried hard.
Prediction: BITS by 123 points
Result: BITS by 184 points
GLENMORE VS GLADSTONE
Glenmore dominated the game from the start, opening up a 7 goal lead by half-time. It was the usual suspects for Glenmore doing the damage, with the under strength Gladstone side not being able to contain the run of Glenmore.
After the main break, Glenmore's midfield got further on top and delivered quality ball to their forwards at will. Shayne Fowler popped up from defence kicking 5 goals, and was well supported by Tyson Payne (4 goals), Darcy Payne (3 goals), Derek Mangan (2 goals). For Gladstone the only multiple goal kicker was youngster Cam O'Grady with 4.
It was the way in which Glenmore won the game which would have disappointed Gladstone's coach the most. The Bulls perhaps being spurred on from winning the wooden spoon last year, showed much more desperation and hunger for the ball.
Prediction: Glenmore by 57 points
Result: Glenmore by 94 points
