AFL Cairns is launching Summer AFL 9’s next month, February 2012. The 8 week competition will be held on Wednesday Night February 1 and finishing on March 21, 2012. We encourage individuals, family groups, businesses, football clubs, committees and friends to join up and create your “own” team.

Cairns Schools through to finals in Brisbane

St Andrews College and St Francis Xavier are both through to the State finals after winning the North Queensland regional finals of the Northern States Cup (high school) and the Gold Coast Suns Cup (primary school) in Townsville on Wednesday.

NAB Gold Coast Suns Cup

St Andrews College will be hoping to go back to back on Monday night (May 23rd) when they join 12 other Cairns primary schools in the 2011 NAB Gold Coast Suns Cup at Cazalys Stadium.

U14s Lions Squad Named

A strong 50 man squad has been training for the past three weeks with the hope of making the U14s Cairns Lions team to compete at the 2011 North Queensland Country Championships in Mackay on June 11th & 12th where the Lions will be hoping to make it 7 championship victories in a row

Cairns local and now Gold Coast SUNS key defender, Jarrod Harbrow joined local Member and Parliamentary Secretary Assisting the Premier in the Far North, Steve Wettenhall at Cazalys Stadium today in the lead up to the AFL Premiership match to be played in Cairns in July.

U16 Cairns Lions Team named for Rockhampton

The Piccones Cairns Lions will attempt to go back to back in the 2011 U16 Queensland Country Championships to be held in Rockhampton from April 15th to 17th.

 

The championships will include teams from Cairns, Cape York, Townsville, Mackay, Capricornia, Bundaberg/Wide Bay and Darling Downs.

The Piccones U17 Cairns Lions team has been named for the 2011 Melbourne Footy Challenge scheduled for March 31st through to April 3rd.

Cairns Foursome Aim for Queensland Team

Cairns foursome Jermaine Wardle, Damien Dewis, Jackson Brown and Andrew Brown will head to Brisbane this Friday to embark on a week long series of trial games and training sessions with the U18 Queensland Scorpions squad as they attempt to make the final Queensland U18 team.

Next Wave of Coaches Ready for 2011 Challenge

The annual AFL Cairns Level 1 coaching course was held on Saturday with 45 new coaches in attendance. Coaches either undertook the junior (Auskick to U11), youth (U11 to U18) or the senior (seniors, reserves, women’s league) course preparing themselves for the season ahead.
