DEFENDING champions Thuringowa Bulldogs have stamped their authority on Townsville's AFL competition.
In a grand final rematch, the Bulldogs beat arch-rivals Hermit Park Tigers 99-77 at Neil French Oval in the opening round of the season.
Ryan Officer booted five goals for the Bulldogs, while Ricky Lyness and Nathan Purdey proved dominant in the middle of the ground.
The first half of the match was a hard-fought battle, with the Tigers up by less than a goal at halftime.
But the Bulldogs then pulled away in the third, with their backs containing the Tigers' forwards and the midfield pushing ahead to give the team plenty of scoring opportunities. Bulldogs coach Paul Sanson said he was pleased to start the season on a good note.
