The Club Umpires Program is designed for individuals to gain the basic competency required to umpire home and away matches for their club. A club based umpire is any individual nominated by a club to officiate home and away matches in the circumstance that the league cannot appoint umpires to that match.
CLUB UMPIRE POSITION DESCRIPTION
It is expected that the nominated individual that participates in this program is a member of an affiliated club, has a basic understanding of the laws of the game and of the role of an umpire in the match day environment. Click Here for a full job description of the role of a Club Based Umpire.
In summary the program has four (4) stages with the majority of material and assesment available online. The program is not time consuming and is totally competency based. There are no lectures or workshops outside of a single complusory 60 min training session.
The AFL has mandated that all umpires who officiate any sanctioned AFL match must be accrediated. Therefore canidates involved in the program will recieve accreditation under the National Umpire Accreditation Scheme.
It should be noted that Club Based umpires will be paid by the league for the matches they officiate and will need to supply payment information and details.
MATCH DAY ENVIRONMENT
Having all club based umpires formally trained in the basic umpiring skills and competencies will improve the match day environment for participants. The role is an important and valuable one and AFLQ is committed to supporting and assisting all club based umpires where ever possible.
