The Townsville City Lions are working hard to enter the Townsville AFL season in 2010.
We have not rested this year, what we have done is rebuilt the core of our club.
Next year we will continue to train at Harold Phillips Park and play our home games at TONY IRELAND STADIUM and maybe in 2011 we will play in the Northern Beaches.
Our current committee consists of:
Ryan Bensch, a footballer and a family man with the drive to see the Lions ROAR.
Dave Smith, a country footballer from Victoria & Western Australia and fitness frantic.
Jonny Freeman, has worked in many capacities with several clubs & AFL leagues.
Brett Owen, passionate player for the Lions.
Wal Taylor, the advisor and the motivator and Experienced President and committee of a number of RSL sub branches. Wal continues as a committee member of the Lions.
Robert Owen, with a business like manner has worked tireless to see the growth of our club while a supporter of his boy.
Paul Stephenson, living in Bushland Beach wants a club in the Northern Beaches.
The Lions are using every bit of experience our committee members can offer to succeed.
There is always room if you want to jump on board as our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING will be held at the Castle Hill PCYC, 4pm on the 31st October.
Nominations close on the 16th October but positions can be accepted from the meeting.
The Meeting will finish with a Barbeque & Drinks.
What The Committee Has Been Happening.
For a month on Sundays we held a barbeque for the Masters training sessions and the church at the Castle Hill PCYC. This was a great start for the Lions where we shared visions for the future.
Our first raffle for 2009 is a $500 fuel voucher from BP / Reliance Fuels.
Once the annual general meeting is dealt with the Christmas raffle will be announced, a great prize for a great cause.
The committee has held a number of meetings with AFL Queensland, AFL Townsville, the United Barras junior football club, The Barras Cricket club and the Townsville City Council.
The purpose and our goal is to move back home, the Northern Beaches to the purpose built ground for the AFL Fans in the northern suburbs.
The Townsville Masters and the Townsville City Lions played a social event to network and encourage new players and members to join the Lions and to show the AFL fraternity that the Lions are the fifth team in the competition.
A great day was had with many thanks to Ian & Jordy for umpiring the game & Scot from the Swans.
The United Barras Junior AFL Club play their games at St Anthony’s Collage in Jensen. They field under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s and 15’s in 2010. The Clubs will work with each other to see AFL grow in the Northern Beaches. Geoff Toulson the President can be contacted on 0428 724 511 for any junior inquires. AUSKICK and School footy have been well received in many schools in the area with lots of kids joining the AFL game.
The Barras Cricket club has been formed for players in the Northern Beaches, grades to be advised. Their President Jason Podgorski can be contacted on 0409 496 772. Let’s work to have a partnership with these two Clubs in the future.
