DURKIN INCLUDED IN HALL OF FAME

Townsville’s John Durkin has been include in AFL Queensland’s Hall of Fame in front of 800 guests at last Thursday nights prestigious Hall of Fame dinner in Brisbane.

It is a fitting reward for Durkin, a seasoned administrator with over thirty years of involvement in Townsville football.

A dual premiership player for West Townsville where he played 178 games in the TAFL he also represented Townsville in the strong NQ championships of the 70’s and 80’s and also coached the Townsville team.

After nine years as the Chairman of AFL Townsville, where his achievements have included a key role in the establishment of the new Tony Ireland Stadium, John will step aside from his position to take on the role of Facilities manager.

“After nine years I feel the time is right for new faces and new ideas. I will still be involved but in a different capacity, which I’m really looking forward to” said Durkin

AFL Townsville AGM is on the Sunday December 7th at Tony Ireland with all positions vacant.
