PNG Boys to make Townsville Home!

Four Papua New Guinea teenagers will relocate to Townsville to improve there AFL.

The PNG National Junior Championships were recently held in Lae where 25 boys were selected to participate at a National Talent Camp from December 12th - 15th where four lucky boys will be selected to try there luck in Townsville.

The players will arrive in Townsville in mid January and train and play wih the Townsville Eagles U/18's in a hope of being selected in the QLD Country Kookaburras Team that wil play in the QLD Championships.

We do need to organise living arrangements for the boys on the Australian Journey, my preference would be that they get billeted out with a local family for the 7 weeks.AFLQ is offering an allowance for the billeting families that are able to facilitate the boys. The boys would work with AFLQ during the day and would also be required to train everyday. Depending on what happens with the boys football situation, eg U/18 state selection, there also maybe an opportunity for a local club to host the boys for the 09 football season.

I have currently have had two families make there home available for the boys but need a couple more to help out, If you are interested and would like some for information please don't hesitate to contact Richie Lyons on 4723 4000 or 0401171487.

This is a great opportunity for the Townsville footy community and could also be a once in lifetime experience for your family to host a young man from another country and culture.
