The RMS AFL Townsville Finals Series kicks off this weekend at the Murray Sporting Complex.
The Second semi Final for the right of entry to the 2009 Grand Final is between the University Hawks and Thuringowa Bulldogs. These teams have meet 5 times throughout the year with the Bulldogs inflicting the Hawks only loss for the year in round 11 and the Hawks winning the other four contests. The Hawks will welcome back midfielders Wainewright and Wearmouth after a coupe of weeks off with injury while key backman Liam Arnott will also return after three weeks on the sideline. The Bulldogs will take confidence from there great 8 goal win over the Tigers last week where David Scott, Tommy Ward dominated in the middle of the ground and veteren Steve Shepperd managed to 7 Goals. Should be a great game that will go down to the wire!
Curra Swans have defeated the Tigers in there past two encounters, can they make it three? The Swans were very good agianst league leaders Hawks last week leading at every break before running out of legs in the final 10 minutes. Alot will depend on if Captain and WJ Williams medalist Brent Doyle takes his spot in the team. Even if Doyle isn't there the Swans have a number of players in terrific form like Nathan Wescombe, Adam MacDonald and full forward Carl Ward is also very Dangerous. Hermit Park have shown in patches that when they are on they can match it with anyone in the league but have struggled with consistency. They need the second tier players to stand up to take some of the pressure of there best 6 or 7. Two great games of local footy at murray, A grade starts at 3:00, reserves at 1:00.
