St Margaret Mary's A, Coached by Hermit Park A Grade Ruckman Andrew Grubba, have taken out AFL Queensland's open Girls Comp for 2009. SMMC played Shalom in the Grand Final after both teams went undeafeated in there earlier pool games. In a very close contest the SMMC kicked 1.1 with the wind in the first to Shalom's solitary point. The second half was a tough contest, with the ball going from one end to the other with ether team finding it hard to trouble the scorers. Final Scores were SMMC 1.1. 7 dft Shalom 0.1. 1
Played on Tuesday this week at Tony Ireland Stadium in a round robin format, 8 teams participated from 6 different high schools. Most of the girls started off slowly but as the day went on the skills and quality of the games definatey improved, as did the tackiling, which the girls seemed to love.
From the games, talented girls have been identifed who to try out for the NQ team to participate at the U/16 girls development championships in Cairns in October.
