The Under 18 Youth Girls Club Competition starts this weekend with Northern Mystery, Southern Storm and newcomers the Gold Coast Warriors all set to do battle. Highlights for the season will be the extended season with the Gold Coast joining the competition and a game at the GABBA for the Northern Mystery vs Gold Coast during Women's Round as the curtain raiser to the Brisbane Lions v Carlton game.
Former AFL Qld employees Bianca Misson and Charmaine Ferguson will take over the reins of the Northern Mystery in 2009. Both are looking forward to the experience of some hands-on coaching as both are now in Sports Co-ordinating roles at schools involved in the BSGSA School Girls AFL competition.
Aasta O'Connor will again coach the Southern Storm which won the title last year. Aasta is a two-time All Australian player and will hopefully be selected in the next couple of weeks to represent Queensland at the National Championships in Perth.
Gold Coast Warriors coach is Wayne Davis, father of Cleo Davis who gained selection in the South-East Queensland Under 16 team in 2008. Wayne's football history consists of over 230 games for Surfers Paradise Seniors, three premierships, Gold Coast representation from 1985-1991 and also has coached from auskick to Under 18 football.
The Under 18 Youth Girls Club Competition is a great way to introduce girls to football or for girls progressing through from our Under 15 Youth Girls Competition.
