Coffs Harbour newspaper recognises local basketballers
Lizzy Tonks is the first Coffs Harbour player to be selected to represent Australia. She has previously been selected in the New South Wales Country Under 16 team to compete at the Australian Championships, but her selection in the Australian 3x3 team is a dream come true. Lizzy hopes good performances in front of the 3x3 Australian coaches will help her career in the 5 aside game in the future.
Shauna Bastick is a dedicated referee who has already officiated at State and Australian Championships, an outstanding honour for the 18 year old. Shauna currently referees the division 1 senior men's and women's State league games, and is teaching young referees in the Coffs Harbour Association. Shauna is taking a gap year, after having gained high enough marks in her HSC to undertake a law degree in 2013.
Both girls are looking forward to meeting players and officials from across the Pacific, especially after having been involved with the New Caledonian club teams who visited Coffs Harbour recently. Local interest is building in the leadup to the Youth Championships, and this story and an accompanying television interview is ensuring that people in the Coffs Harbour area know what the 3x3 Youth Championship is all about.
