Ormiston win through to the Final

The last time the two teams met, Carmel had several players being rested due to club commitments so the OC boys knew this would be an even tougher fight for victory. This was demonstrated from the first bounce, with both sides attacking the ball early. The breeze seemed to have died down which hindered Ormiston’s chances to get on the front foot early. By quarter time only a goal separated the two sides with Carmel being held goalless and conceding the one major.

The second quarter Ormiston truly showed their promise as premiership contenders. Midfielders Sam Godfrey, Ben Kurtz and Captain Steven Moss were demolishing in centre clearances and were giving leading forwards AJ McCoy and Nick “Pig” Thompson great service with fine delivery. Carmel had no reply and were left watching as the class of OC’s midfield worked together to achieve an outstanding quarter of football.

The third term proved to be less dominant for Ormiston, with Carmel producing a few good plays and creating run through the centre of the ground. However, Carmel was well held by strong defensive pressure and failed to convert any real opportunities.  Ormiston opened up a 7.5.47 to 3.4.22 lead heading into the last quarter.

The last fifteen minutes showed that despite a four goal margin Carmel were still playing for the win. Carmel’s captain Liam Christianson and Adam Bell proved that they weren’t backing down from a contest regardless of the score. This enthusiasm fueled the other Carmel boys to keep fighting although it was too little too late as Ormiston’s telling second quarter seemed to be the difference and secure the win. The final score gave Ormiston the win 9.7.61 to Carmel 7.6.48
