Round 9 WEDNESDAY Preview: Women

By James Woite

Sturt (5-3) v West (3-6)

The Sturt Sabres and the West Adelaide Bearcats will meet for the second time this season, when they go head-to-head at Adelaide Arena on Wednesday.

The Sabres are in the midst of a poor run of form, winning just one of four games since a 4-0 start. They were heavily beaten 55-83 by South in their most recent match. Amy Shaw was held to 12 points and 5 assists, while Kate Gladstone and Jessica McPhail each had 7 rebounds.

The Bearcats struggled in the early part of the season, but have been much better the last month, as illustrated by their 83-37 win over Centrals on Saturday. Anna Carbo marked her first start of 2015 with 20 points, while Trudy Holland had 17 rebounds and 13 assists.

The Sabres beat the Bearcats 69-56 earlier this year.

Woodville (5-4) v Centrals (0-8)

The Woodville Warriors will attempt to end a two game losing streak, when they face off against the Central District Lions at Adelaide Arena on Wednesday.

After losing to Norwood the previous week, the Warriors failed to bounce back in successful fashion, losing to lowly Forestville 48-62. The defeat came in spite of game-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds from Callan Taylor. Tess Keenan added 4 assists for the Warriors, who were without star Katherine Perkas.

The Lions, who were without Amy Lewis and Rosalie Cutri, were heavily beaten by West. Hannah Dixon scored 10 points and Nicole Harris, Stephanie Littleford and Amy Onaca each grabbed 9 rebounds.

The Warriors swept the Lions in 2014.
