Round 8 Preview: Men

By James Woite

North (6-2) v Southern (1-6)

The North Adelaide Rockets will be going at their seventh win of 2015 when they meet the Southern Tigers.

The Rockets are now 4-2 against the top five of 2015, after defeating Forestville 85-77 at Wayville last week.

The Tigers went down in a one point thriller to Centrals. They are now 1-6.

The Rockets have won 16 of their last 17 against the Tigers. The Tigers’ only win over the Rockets during this span came at Morphett Vale last season.

South (2-7) v Sturt (3-4)

If the Sturt Sabres can get up over the South Adelaide Panthers at Marion, they will be back at .500 for the first time since they sat 2-2.

The 3-4 Sabres ran up a big second half against Eastern last round, ending a four game losing streak.

The Panthers are once again five games below .500. They were badly beaten 47-83 by West, making it two consecutive losses.

The Panthers defeated the Sabres at Marion last season. Their season series ended 1-1.

West (6-2) v Centrals (3-4)

In the Match of the Round, the Central District Lions finally have the chance to exact a little revenge for their Semi Final defeat to the West Adelaide Bearcats last season.

In the 2014 First Semi Final, the Lions led by seven with only a quarter to play and were on track for a date in the Preliminary Final. That was until the Bearcats roared home with a 28-6 final period.

This week’s Lions-Bearcats clash is the first meeting between these teams since that fateful day last August.

The Lions just got home 75-74 against Southern last week. At 3-4, a win here would put them right in the mix for the top five.

The Bearcats have been in good form of late, and are coming off a big win over South.

Despite losing to the Bearcats in the finals, the Lions won last season’s series 2-1.

Woodville (7-1) v Forestville (4-4)

The Woodville Warriors can make it six straight wins with a victory over Forestville at St Clair.

Currently 7-1, the Warriors were given their toughest test for a while last week, but earned an important 87-73 win at Norwood.

Contrastingly, the Eagles have been doing it tough of late, with their loss at home to North their third defeat on the bounce.

Despite the Warriors’ rise to the top in recent seasons, they have found wins over Forestville hard to come by. The Eagles have won four straight against the Warriors.

Eastern (2-6) v Norwood (6-3)

The Eastern Mavericks and Norwood Flames will attempt to get back to winning ways when they meet at Adelaide Hills.

The Mavericks had won two straight, prior to their 74-94 loss at Sturt last round. They are now 2-6, but are only two games back from fifth-placed Forestville.

The Flames were five wins from six games, until they went down at home to Woodville. At 6-3, they can ill-afford another loss, with West and North also on six wins and both with a game in hand.

The Flames went 2-0 against the Mavericks last season.
