2012 Australian School Fencer Championships
Call for Expressions of Interest - Athletes
Fencing Victoria (FV) is calling for expressions of interest from athletes for selection to represent Victoria, and their School, at the 2012 Australian School Fencer Championships. A call for nominations for Officials is currently on the Fencing Victoria Website.
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2012 Australian School Fencer Championships will be held in Brisbane, over the weekend of 16-17 June. The Championships will consist of six events - Men's & Women's Foil, Men's & Women's Epee, Men's & Women's Sabre.
There are two age categories:
Intermediate – students up to and including year 9
Senior – open to any school student
To be eligible the athlete must have been a student in Victoria for at least 12 months prior to the competition and is required to have competed in the Fencing Victoria Schools Competition on May 6th. The full Selection Policy will be available on 24th April.
Following each individual event, a team event will take place, in which all athletes from Victoria will form a team.
ATHLETES
Fencing Victoria will select a team of five athletes for each event (four competitors, and one non-travelling reserve). All members of each team may come from different schools. Full selection policy will be available on 24th April.
COSTS
Selected athletes will be required to meet the costs of their travel, accommodation, insurance expenses, the required individual entry fee and a team levy to cover costs of a referee and team manager. Athletes must also ensure that they are fully affiliated with Fencing Victoria at the time of nomination (via the transaction portal at www.fencingvictoria.org).
NOMINATION PROCESS & TIMELINE
Expressions of interest must be received by email to schools@fencingvictoria.org before 5.00pm on Friday 4th May. Following that date, based on the number of expressions of interest received, Fencing Victoria will then set the team levy. Athletes will then be required to formally confirm their nomination with a deposit. Late nominations may be accepted by the FV Executive at its sole discretion. Any selection decisions will be referred to the Selection Commission by the FV Executive. Questions regarding this competition and the nomination process may also be addressed to schools@fencingvictoria.org.
OTHER INFORMATION
There will also be a 2012 Australian School Teams Championships in August in Brisbane. Fencing Victoria will be communicating to schools directly regarding that competition. There will be no Foil teams competition held in conjunction with the Australian National Junior (Under-20s) Championships in Brisbane in 2012. In the event that there are insufficient expressions of interest, Fencing Victoria may elect not to be represented in the 2012 Australian School Fencer Championships. The Under-15s and Cadets (Under-17s) National Championships in Sydney in June/July is completely unrelated to the 2012 Australian School Fencer Championships, and athletes may choose to attend either, none, or both.
