Sids n Kids 'Sunshine Beach Run': First WAWFL team over the line...

WAWFL Clubs are encouraged to get their teams together and kick off pre-season with the Sunshine Beach Run challenge.
In addition to the prizes on offer through Sids and Kids, the League is offering a prize to the first WAWFL club team to cross the line. Good luck!

NOW OPEN: Rogers 20/20 Cup Nominations. Due 6th Feb.
The Rogers’ 20/20 Cup competition is a pre-season development tool to assist clubs in recruiting brand new players to the game as well as players transitioning from district and school competition. The Cup is run in the spirit of development and provides a safe and fun environment for females to test drive senior competition. The Cup further provides for club development in the non-playing segments of the game by providing means and opportunity for newly accredited coaches, umpires and sport trainers to put their skills into practice under the watchful eye of mentors. The Cup kicks off the weekend of 25 February, 2012.

AFL 9S FEMALE SUMMER COMP
When: Every Tuesday for 10 weeks starting 24th of January 2012, between 6pm-9pm
Where: Curtin University, South Oval
Competition Format: 9 weeks of round robin games and the last week will be finals matches
Cost: $800 per team paid up front or $90 per team paid weekly
Team: Each team is allowed to register a max of 13 players

Sam Conquers the Big Apple

South Fremantle Women’s Football Club 2011 premiership player, Samantha Shepherd has not been letting the grass grow under feet during the football off season. Yesterday she completed the New York Marathon!
Sam was selected as part of Rob de Castella’s Indigenous Marathon Project along with 10 other men & women across Australia. After seven months of training and despite suffering cramps for ten klms of the race, Sam completed the marathon distance. Her display of talent and dedication is a wonderful role model for other young sportswomen in our community.

Swans Youth Girls Named Best Metro Team

The annual District Youth Girls Carnival was held on Sunday, 14th August 2011.Hamer Park in Mount Lawley hosted the ten different teams that nominated, which created two pools in the carnival.
The District Youth Girls carnival gives girls aged 13-17 from different districts around WA the opportunity to participate in Australian Football. An enjoyable day for many young superstars to show off their skills and talent in football, in front of parents, friends and the Western Australian Women’s Football League talent scouts.
Swan Districts entered a team of 24 talented players into the carnival to play against the best selected girls among other districts.

The success of the West Australian Women’s Football League is a reflection of the phenomenal passion and commitment of its volunteers, from Club President to water runner, the future of the senior female game is in safe hands when those hands are our amazing volunteers. In 2011 we look to say ‘thank you’ in a celebration of our volunteers culminating in the presentation of our inaugural Lynette Geaney Award, named in honour of one of our longest serving and dynamic volunteers. Smitty is both a Life Member of our League and a Life Member of the East Fremantle Football Club.

ABC's Half Time at the Footy - keep an eye out!

ABC Sport did a piece on female footy this week which will hopefully air sometime over the coming weekends. The School Girls 16s and Team WA made their way down to All Saints College Tuesday to showcase the female game for ABC.
Central to the 'Half Time at the Footy' segment will be an interview with National Champs Debbie Lee (Best On Ground) Medal winner, East Fremantle's Kirby Bentley.
We hope to see the segment eventually make its way on to YouTube.

The growth of women’s football in Western Australia was on display for all to see at the weekend, with the WAWFL’s two newest sides squaring off in Division Two.
The Mt Lawley Hawks and the SNESA Angels both joined the league in 2011, offering improved female football pathways in the East Perth and Perth districts respectively and taking the total number of WAWFL clubs to nine.
BULLDOGS BITE BACK!

The South Fremantle Women’s Football Club (SFWFC) has fought back against cancer by participating in the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life last month.
It was the first time the club has been involved in the annual event held at the Athletics Stadium, which gives the community a chance to get together and help celebrate cancer survivors and remember loved ones.
