THE Geelong Basketball League Winter Championship minor premiership appears a foregone conclusion following Pivot City’s 50-45 victory over YMCA in Round action at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

It has the Pivotonians sitting eight points clear on top of the table with five rounds to play.

In an even team performance, Pivot City came from seven points down at half time to claim win number 11 of the season.

Nick Kent top scored with 11 points, while veteran big James Walker and youngster Dusty Duggan both had nine.

13 points from Riley Herbert was best for Y.

Lara overcame the absence of big men Ash Cannan and Lindsay Cole to beat Christian College 75-69, and cause a three-way tie for second spot.

The Giants trailed by six points at three-quarter time, but came home with a rush, outscoring the Eagles 27-17 in the final period.

Guard Mikey Lesic was outstanding with 26 points for Lara and was well supported by 17 from backcourt partner Rob Harding.

SEABL Supercats big man Liam McInerney poured in 28 points for Christian College, while youngster Jack Burnett had 16.

Sharks overcame a slow start to keep their slim finals hopes alive with a 61-54 result against Vytis.

After being held to just two points in the opening term, Sharks were able to get the contest back on level terms in the second period.

A 21-12 third quarter ultimately proved the difference between the two teams.

Dane Bow had 26 points for Sharks, while Steve Wiasak paced the Knights with 17.

YMCA reconfirmed its championship credentials in the women’s competition with a 70-62 result in the top-of-the-table clash with Dolphins.

Going in without SEABL Lady Supercat Tayla Roberts and guard Charmaine Ferguson, Y was spearheaded by 30 points from Maddy McMahon.

She received solid support from Kathy Mallon (12 points) and Vicki King (11).

Cortney Williamson was again the offensive spark for Dolphins as she dropped 21 points.

Kim Martin continued her recent good form with 16 points and TJ Rolph dropped 15.

Pivot City climbed into second spot with an 85-52 victory over Try Bears.

A 26-7 second period gave Pivot a 28-point lead at the main break, ensuring win number eight of the season.

Shayna Poto proved too much for Pivot to handle with 23 points, Alli Marsh had 18 and Oliva Cameron 16.

Tash Daffy and Ang Morris both had 14 for the Bears.

Rovers remain the hunt for a top-two finish after holding of a determined Lara 55-46.

Talented young big Grace Parker made the most of the absence of star Giant Caitlin Shadbolt’s absence, scoring 23 points.

Alex Hillman had a night out for Lara with 22 points.
