Young Dolphin off to College

THE list of talented young Basketball Geelong products heading to the US to further their game has added another name.

Dolphins' Mikaela Watson has signed with Indiana-based junior college Vincennes University.

The 195cm forward will join the Trailblazers, who posted a 23-6 record last season, in August.

"College is something I have been aiming for since 2010 when I was invited to a training camp through the NITP program that I was involved in," Watson told BasketballGeelong.com.au.

"It was taken by a coach from an American college and I was hooked.

"I really liked the whole idea-the commitment, playing the sport I love and studying at the same time and my interest just grew from there."

Watson is hoping her US experience is more than just two years at Vincennes.

"My goal from Vincennes is to be picked up by a Division 1 college, all going well," she said.

"It will be very hard to leave home leaving behind my family and friends, but a new chapter of my life will be starting.

Watson joins Ellie Stevens (San Jose State) and Sam Johns (North Country Community College) as Basketball Geelong products hitting the hardwood across the Pacific.
