VYTIS has ended Pivot City’s 11-match winning streak with a 45-36 victory in Round 15 Geelong Basketball League Winter Championship action at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

The Pivotonians went into the clash without talisman Jason Reardon and the Knights took full advantage of his absence.

Vytis were impressive defensively, keeping the reigning champions to less than double figures in three of the four quarters.

Steve Wiasak was the difference between the two teams with 17 points while Dave Reilly contributed 11.

Steve Packer was best for the Pivotonians with 11 points.

YMCA remains in the hunt for a top-two finish after a 69-64 result against Lara.

Y trailed by seven at the main break but outscored the Giants 26-14 in the third period to take the lead.

Riley Herbert impressed again with 22 points, Lewie Varley had 14 and brother Emerson contributed 11.

Big man Lindsay Cole dominated for Lara with 23 points.

Sharks held off a fast-finishing Try Boys to claim a critical 80-78 win.

Leading by 10 at three-quarter time, Sharks looked to have win number six of 2014 in their keeping.

However, the Bears came with a rush in the last period, outscoring Sharks 23-15.

Big V Supercat Dane Bow ensured Sharks remained in the hunt for a finals berth with 27 points while Seamus Hants poured in 22.

Young gun Matt Johns paced the Bears with 18 points and fellow teenager Liam Meyrich provided 17 points.

YMCA further consolidated top spot on the women’s Winter Championship ladder with a 53-40 win over Pivot City.

The margin was just four at three-quarter time. However, Y was able to outscore Pivot 19-10 in the final period to claim win number 10 of 2014.

SEABL Lady Supercat Tayla Roberts finished with 18 points, while Maddy Taylor was again important with 15.

Madi Boyd led Pivot City with 11 points while Shayna Poto was next best with 10.

Dolphins moved back into second spot with a comfortable 85-40 victory over Lara.

The match was a good as over as a contest when Dolphins led 21-10 at quarter time.

Ebony Rolph proved too tough to handle for the Giants finishing with 24 points, while fellow big Kim Martin had 22.

Jo Chambers and Nat Wallace finished with eight points apiece for Lara.

Sharks made a mockery of ladder positions with an 87-63 win against Rovers.

The reigning champions have moved to within a point of the top four with their sixth victory of the season.

Alex Duck was at her sublime best with 32 points and was well supported by Georgia Varley (22 points) and Becky Lane (21).

Young guns Emily Koroneos (17 points) and Grace Parker (16) tried hard for a Rovers side without star shooter Kylie Morrissy.
