Another SUPERCAT goes International!

With our St Laurence Geelong Supercats Head Coach Jamie O’Loughlin returning tonight from his role as Assistant Coach for Australia’s silver medal campaign at FIBA U17 World Championships in Lithuania we will have one of our own junior Supercats depart tomorrow to represent his native Malta in the U16 European Championships Men Div C in Gilbratar.

Zane Micallef, the U18 Supercats player, will be travelling to Malta to train with the Malta's National team for 8 days, then from Malta fly to Gibraltar for the Championships from 24th-29th July. Div C is based on population sizes and the other teams they will be playing are SMALLER European countries such as: Scotland, Wales, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra and Gibraltar.

Micallef plays domestically for Christian College White in the U18 competition is looking forward to again representing Malta at these championships. “ I am extremely excited to be given this once and a life time opportunity again, so I am going to strive to do better than last year (we placed 4th overall last year). Last year we lost the bronze medal game to Wales by 10 points and will be striving for the Gold this time around”, Micallef said.

Micallef is an aggressive point guard, who loves to drive and dish. A good outside shooter with great on ball defence and court vision. His decision making skills is an asset on court. “I am one of the top age players so hopefully that gives me the advantage. All I have to do is listen to the Coaches and just play my game and hopefully it all works out for the final result”, Micallef said.
