Do you a spare night during the week, like keeping fit, and want to make some easy cash before Christmas? Then we might have the job for you.
The AFL is currently seeking interested umpires to join in the fun in the leagues newest competition, AFL9s.
AFL 9s ‘The Game for Everyone’ is the latest sporting trend to hit Australian parks and is a revised competition of the game, formally known as Rec Footy.
This non-contact game is a social, fun and easy sport to play for people of all ages and skill level which incorporates all the fundamentals of AFL football in a simple, modified version.
AFL 9s will run from October through to December in various locations across NSW and ACT with most venues played out of Sydney.
After hanging up the boots in 2009, two-time premiership captain of Geelong, Tom Harley, started playing AFL 9s to keep fit and he thoroughly enjoys being part of a team again.
“There are so many benefits of getting involved in team sports,” Harley said.
AFL 9s is a great game for umpires new to the sport to learn the skills and rules, those wanting to have fun and get fit and to stay involved in team sport during the off-season.
The traditional AFL rules have been modified to make the game safe, fast and exciting and there will be mixed, female and male competitions of all ages and skill levels.
Some of the rules include: AFL 9s is non contact; tags are worn by all players to substitute a tackle, matches are played on smaller fields broken into three zones (forwards, midfielders, defenders) with three players per zone (nine per team), only forwards can score goals and the mixed competitions must have at least three female players.
With over 15 venues across NSW (the majority are located within Sydney) and ACT there are plenty of opportunities to be involved. All training and rules will be provided to umpires by competition managers prior to the season starting.
Umpires will be paid $25 a game; competitions to run in 2 game blocks for 10 weeks. Up to $1,000 cash in your pocket for those available for the 2 hours every week.
