Division 2 Women’s Grand Final –Summer 2014 / 15

On Monday 2nd March the Reserve Women played off against Woodville in the Division 2 Grand Final.

With Woodville starting strongly North came back and the scores were 12 all at quarter time. North maintained the momentum in the second quarter outscoring Woodville 8 points to 18 to lead by 10 at half time. Woodville made a bid in the third outscoring North by 3 points reducing the lead to just 7.

In the last quarter North put pressure on up the floor denying Woodville easy access down the court. With this full court pressure Woodville had trouble finding open players and scoring opportunities were limited.

With North outscoring Woodville by 10 points in the last quarter the final score was 57 – 40.

All the girls played well with leading scorers being Genna Anderson with 22 and Kirsty Williams on 12.

 

U23.1 Women’s Grand Final - Summer 2014 / 15

The next day the U23 girls then took their turn to play in the Division 1 Youth League Grand Final against Forestville.

North started strongly and at quarter time were up 21 to 13 points. The second quarter was tight with only 12 points scored by both teams. Forestville came back in the 3rd quarter outscoring North by 5 points leaving North up by only 3 points heading into the last quarter.

The last quarter saw a tight and fierce battle and with only a few seconds to go North were down by 3 points but a quick offense and a clam head allowed Tayla Calvert to hit a 3 pointer on the siren and level the score taking us into overtime.

The score went back and forth during overtime but some strong defensive work a clever offensive work saw North win by 2 points at the final siren 72 – 70.

This was North’s first Division 1 flag in Youth League with all girls playing well and contributing to the win. High scorers were Opal Mader on 17; Genna Anderson with 16 and Tayla Calvert on 14.

With Brenton Johnston away at the New Zealand Iron Man event it was up to John Della-Pia to steer both teams to their wins. He would like say how proud he is of all the girls and to thank both teams for their efforts and for coming out and supporting each other over the 2 games.
