Hi Champions!!!
WE DID IT!!!! Winning a Championship is great, winning two is fantastic, three is truly outstanding
Well done everyone - What a TEAM EFFORT a truly magnificent win and one of our best.
For the record that created Club History with 3 wins on the trot, 7 NSW Club Championship victories since the event was introduced in 1993. That equals Cronulla's 3 consecutive wins in 96-98 and surpasses Cronulla's 6 titles. We've won 4 of the last 5 run!!!
I'll Echo El Prezo Tim Scotts words Club Spirit is one of the main factors that separates WTC from the other Clubs. Congratulations to Hills on giving us a real battle. Their day will come soon no doubt.
It would take me pages to acknowledge all the sensational results so I'll keep it brief. I still can't believe we only won by 10 points. Check these results out -
1st place Pete Walker (2nd overall), Ben Hammond, Christelle Van Neikirk (2nd female), Geoff Thorso. 2nd placing - Lee Wallace (5th outright), Darren Quarrell, Rebecca Everleigh (3rd female overall), Sarah Fletcher, Sandra Reid, 3rd placing - Brucey, Kurt Leahman, Jude O'shea, Row Walker, Wilf Deck. We had a heap of top 10 placings too many to mention.
I was impressed how fantastic members looked decked out in the new Club Race kit. Everyone raced as hard as they could. Some to impress were Pete Short & Todd Richo who had a ding dong go and finished 9th & 10th respectively in the 30-34's. Shorty was going so hard on the Bike (4th fastest bike split) he had what appeared to be a Greenie Yellow Jet Stream flowing from behind his bike. No it's not what you think, inquiries reveal it was just a Lime Gel & Lactic acid build up that need to be expelled.
Speaking of team race gear I was amazed to see Ben Hammond racing in a WTC Singlet from the 1990's I thought Thorso & I were the only members to still have one. He must be trying to save money for his trip to compete in Europe. Ben fly's out this week, best wishes from your Club mates & thanks for racing for WTC (I know Blamoral tried to steal him).
There was a bit of Drama on the Beach when John Macca (McNamarra) was escorted back to shore by SLSC staff shortly after his wave started. Reports were it was due to a panic attack. After being re-assured his mini Bar at the Team Hotel was fully stocked he reluctantly decided to return to the race. If you're looking at the results this will explain his swim time.
The Atmosphere at the Club Tent before and after the race was testament to the Club Spirit. That was nothing though compared to what was experienced at back at the Team Hotel. With over a 100 very thirsty athletes in attendance at Dinner the scene was set for a Huge night. We were treated to a slide show of action from past races. After the presentation of Club Awards the place went into an uproar as and we all sang along with Rory O & his guitar.
The action continued when we arrived on masse at the bowling Club for the announcement of Awards. A huge roar greeted the result and the Club went into celebration mode. Sarah Fletcher & Jo Reid entertained the whole crowd on stage with a Bruce Spingstein song. As an encore Fletch decided to Crowd Surf for a while. Did we get her back?
Michael Mahady was in fine form on the Dance floor until he received a Yellow card from Security. At first it was thought he had been ejected for his dancing style (ala Peter Garrett - Midnight Oil) However, he was asked to leave for swaying & leering. Mike was placed in the naughty chair for the rest of the evening.
Grant Cameron was also nearly ejected as he decided to celebrate the evening by distributing Cigars to anyone interested and then lighting up in the Club. He was quickly shown the Club new smoking area.
I'm happy to report this year there was no incidents of nude triathlons being run, no fire extinguishers were tested & there was no reports of skinny dipping in the pool. By the look of many of you at breakfast most had a very good time. Finally has anyone located Patricia Cretin, apparently her roomies were very concerned about her whereabouts. Girls, she looked ok to me at breakfast and had a big smile on her face.
Remember Pain doesn't last forever, but memories do. Thanks everyone for a great weekend.
