The AFL wishes to advise that tomorrow’s two curtain-raiser matches to the 2009 Toyota AFL Grand Final will be moved to Visy Park.
AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou said the amount of rain within the last 24 hours and the weather forecast for tomorrow’s Grand Final, coupled with advice from groundstaff at the MCG, had left the AFL with no option but to move the two NAB AFL Under 16 Championship finals, to protect the surface as much as possible before the St Kilda v Geelong Cats encounter.
“The AFL Grand Final is our showpiece match for the season and the two teams must have the best possible surface to contest the premiership,” Mr Demetriou said.
“We understand the competing teams in the Under 16s will be extremely disappointed, along with their families and support staff, but we must take this decision to move the two matches for the most important match of the 2009 year.”
The two games will be played at Visy Park at the same time they were originally scheduled for the MCG, to enable the players and their families to then attend the 2009 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
