State and Regional Coaches of the Year recognised

The AFL NSW/ACT Coaches Association is pleased to announce Brendan Bailey as the inaugural winner of State Coach of the Year Award.

Bailey, coach the Under 16 team at the Cardiff Hawks from the Greater Sydney Juniors Newcastle competition, was recognised for his ability to motivate and teach young players within a fun and supportive environment.

Bailey has served as a Newcastle representative coach as well as a regional coach with the AFL (NSW/ACT) Talented Player Program for the Northern Heat.

As a part of the award, Bailey was given a trip to Melbourne to enjoy the 2009 Toyota AFL Grand Final.

Bailey said that he was humbled to receive the award.

“It is a great honour to receive this award. It really was a huge surprise.

“I have been very fortunate to be able to work with some great players and coaches throughout the year in my various coaching roles and I hope that I have been of assistance to the players in their footballing journey.

“The Grand Final was a once in a life time experience that I will never forget. To see the competition’s two best sides on football’s biggest stage was unbelievable and I thank the AFL for giving me the opportunity.”

This year saw the introduction of a new recognition program launched through the Coaches Association acknowledged the important and vital contribution made by coaches within the wider football community.

AFL (NSW/ACT) State Coaching Manager Daniel Archer said that the calibre of entries and the dedication of coaches across the region was something for the whole football community to be proud of.

“We really did receive a high number of outstanding nominations from across the state and territory. We really very lucky to have so many dedicated people involved in our club system, and I we look forward to working with them all to help continue to improve the level of coaching in our programs.”

Along with the state winner there are a number of impressive regional winners who were recognised.
