New competition structure 2013 - "the new direction"

During 2012, concerns continued to be raised regarding the local competition and senior football not providing true development opportunities and with the competition structure/regulations no longer adequately regulating senior player grading in particular. After considering submissions from Clubs, local football supporters and our neighboring Association & partner in some Joint Competitions (Southern Tablelands Football Assoc), it was unanimously concluded that structural change was required and that no one age group, gender or competition could possibly be restructured in isolation.

The Board put proposed structures to Clubs late 2012. Whilst eight HSA Member Clubs had eight slightly different views on the proposed structure, ALL Clubs were unanimous in saying that the Board was on the right path. The Board published the final target structure for 2013 incorporating some of the feedback received from Clubs in late 2012 to the original proposal.

The Board and Clubs are very aware that in some ways the competition is slightly different, but in other ways, not so different to the previous format. Essentially, the grading is now age discriminating rather than Clubs/players self grading. However, there is already a huge allowance for flexibility in the structures to allow the community to ease into a new structure. There may well be a few restrictive elements based on age, but there is also huge offset flexibility.

The Clubs and the Board share the view that something needed to be done to address a stale and non-progressive format. The attached document outlines the guideline aim for 2013. Clubs will be aiming to register and nominate teams according to the these age based guidelines. From there, the Board will work with the Clubs to ensure every player has a place to enjoy the game at the grassroots in the Highlands area.

The Board, Clubs and community ask everyone wishing to play football this year to get along to their Club and register. As usual, Clubs will work cooperatively to ensure players get a game at the players Club of choice or help facilitate options otherwise. From there, players can rest assured they will get a game this season.
