Two more big wins for the Wolfpack over Lightning (Week 11 Sunday SBL wrap)

THE Joondalup City Wolves men's and women's teams both had wins on Saturday night over the Stirling Senators and then backed that up on Sunday afternoon with two more SBL victories over the Lakeside Lightning.

The Wolves had a good night at Warwick Leisure Centre on Saturday night with both the men's and women's teams scoring victories over the Stirling Senators and then they backed it up with an afternoon spent winning at home against the Lightning.

The Sunday afternoon action began with the women's fixture at Joondalup Basketball Stadium with the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves defeating the Lakeside Lightning 96-58.

There was then the men's clash to close out the weekend's action with the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves defeating the Lakeside Lightning 119-105 at Joondalup Basketball Stadium to move to the top of the standings.

The Lady Wolfpack consolidated second position in the standings at end of the Week 11 and improved to an 11-2 record and have now won four straight matches following Sunday's 38-point win over the Lightning at home.

Rebecca Mercer led the way for the Wolves in the win over the Lightning finishing with 22 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals while shooting 6-of-12 from the floor, 4-of-7 from three-point territory and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Shani Amos also had a triple-double for Joondalup ending the afternoon with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists while shooting 5-of-9 from the field, and 2-of-4 from downtown.

Alex Kerr and Amy Kidner both added 12 points apiece for the Lady Wolfpack off the bench with Casey Lockwood also adding 10 points while Chelsea Burns pulled in 12 rebounds and dished out six assists, and Ellyce Ironmonger had seven points and 12 boards.

Tia Ucich top-scored for the Lightning off the bench with 14 points to go with five rebounds and five assists with Megan Craig contributing 12 points, Ashleigh Grant and Amanda Pether nine. Tiahrn Flynn also added three points, six rebounds and four assists for Lakeside.

And in the men's contest on Sunday afternoon, the Wolfpack moved to the top of the standings just ahead of the Geraldton Buccaneers with both sitting on 13-2 records, but the Wolves ahead on percentage.

Trian Iliadis was outstanding again for the Wolves finishing the afternoon with 42 points and six rebounds on the back of shooting 15-of-29 from the field, 4-of-11 from three-point territory and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Captain Seb Salinas added 21 points, five assists and four rebounds as well for the Wolfpack with Kevin Davis contributing 20 points, 19 rebounds, five blocked shots, two assists and two steals.

Ben Ironmonger also finished with 16 points and five assists for Joondalup and Damian Matacz 10 points along with five boards and three assists.

Jordan Swing did all he could to try and lift the Lightning over the line ending up with 35 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.

Luke Thomas added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Lakeside while Corey Martin contributed 17 points, six boards, three assists and two blocks, Tom Parkinson 13 points and Jarrad Prue 12 along with 18 rebounds.
