COACH'S REPORT - Goannas Camp January 2013

Goannas Camp 3

The Goannas came together for Camp 3 which was held at Sherbrooke in Melbourne 19-20 January, 2013.

The team had an 8am sharp start on both days. They were put through their paces which included fitness tests, personal screening and running. The team also implemented a new offence, defense & baseline plays during training.

The first afternoon session consisted of a game against a Sherbrooke Suns team. The team started slowly due to the morning workload but it was good to see the boys execute and understand the plays that we had only learnt in the morning session. It is always difficult to implement the new plays that they learnt in the morning session, but the boys did me extremely proud with the way they continued to run the plays.

On Sunday the players played a further game against Sherbrooke and the coach was extremely pleased with the application and determination of all players. The Sherbrook boys pushed us early but the boys cranked up the defence and started to run the floor on offence. The boys really showed me that they can play “Goannas” style of basketball and played a fantastic last 3 quarters of basketball to run out winners 58-27. It must have been the “pasta dinner” on Saturday night that contributed to the team performance. The players then went to the Dandenong Ranges and completed the 1000 steps with a single line run at the completion of the steps.

Overall the weekend was a great success with every player improving on at least one aspect of their game. It is important we keep the ball rolling and I am already planning ahead for the next 2 camps.

Let’s make 2013 “The Year of the Goanna”!

The Goannas would like to thank Sherbrooke Basketball Association for their assistance during the weekend and our helpers.
