The CVIBL, WVBL, VBL and Big V History
In 1990, Southern Peninsula entered a CVIBL men's team for the first time. This was the 2nd year of CVIBL competition, being the Country Victorian Invitation Basketball League. Our men, who were made up of the best local talent competed at the highest division available, Premier Division.
Our women entered the CVIBL in 1995. Among those debut team members was club legend, Lauren Dalling, whose retired number 6 uniform top can be seen in the foyer of Hillview Stadium and current PowerAde Sharks women's Captain, Sheena Atkins.
Success for our men's and women's team has been plentiful, including our women being Runners Up in 1999 and our men following suit in 2004. Perhaps the greatest achievement has been our 2005 PowerAde Shark's men's team, which saw them go 18 wins and 0 losses through the regular season and then clean sweep the finals to become the first men's team to go undefeated through a season at an elite level in Australian Basketball.
The highest scoring point's record for our women is jointly held by Lauren Dalling, with Georgina May equaling her record some 6 years later at 40 points. Justin Bourchier has the honor of not only holding the highest Shark's point's record, but also the Big V record, which stands at 57 points. Justin did this feat in 2002, during his All Star year.
