Under 11 Coaches Report - Mornington Carnival

U11’S INTERLEAGUE CARNIVAL REPORT

This was my first carnival at Casey Fields and I was happy to turn up and see a well organized day and a team ready to go.

Our Captain for the first game way Jaidyn Stephenson and Vice Captain was Harrison Byrne, who both trained very well.

Our first game was straight after team photos and I don’t know if it was this distraction or the occasion, but the boys were a bit flat and tentative in our first hit out.  We won 2 points by outscoring the Mornington League in the first half by a point, but were outplayed in the second half and lost the game by a few goals.  We spoke about our lack of pressure that was applied in game one, and set goals to tackle hard, to not turn over the ball when under pressure, and to try and hold possession.

The Captain for game two was Adam Moate who was outstanding in game one, and Dale Senior who also played well, was made Vice Captain.  We played Alberton Football League and in the first half we were even, which gained us one point each, but we ran away with the game in the second half with the wind and collected five points in total.  But the most pleasing thing was the difference in the way we applied ourselves in this game, and the boys played well as a team and were very excited with the result of their efforts.

Game three we spoke about leaving nothing in the tank and to run, tackle and back each other up to the max.  Captain for game three was Angus Mclean and Vice Captain was Michael Gibbons, who were both good in game two.  The boys never let the Frankston League boys into the game and controlled the game from the first bounce to the end.  This gave us six more points and a total of thirteen for the carnival.

The team got second place overall, which was great and everyone was proud of their efforts.  For his three good games, Adam Moate deservedly won our player of the carnival.  He was great all day.  I also think Angus Mclean and Dale Senior had an outstanding carnival, but I have many memories of all the players having their moments during the day.  This inspired me, and is why I coach, so thanks boys, you were all a pleasure to coach.

I would like to thank Peter Mangold who was at every training session and was my Team Manager, Peter Dall for being Trainer, Darren Stephenson for being Runner, Nick and Ross our Water Boys, and Greg, Mark and everyone else at Mt Evelyn for our practice match.  Without these people the boys would miss out.

Go Ranges!!!
