U14 Interleague 2009
I would like to first up thank the support of the DRJFL Committee and the Development/ Interleague Committee for there tireless effort though out the year all the planing and effort that goes into getting this off the ground. Also big thank you to Doug, Judy, Ian, Sherlene, Ray for personal effort.
I have enjoyed watching the enthusiasm of the other Development Coaches throughout the 16 weeks of training it is always paramount that we lock in the best Coaches available and this year the bar has been raised again in Tim and Dave, well done and to other Interleague Coaches in Steve, Hugh, Colby and Michael it is you that is preparing the younger groups for us so you are a very important part of the cog as well as the rest of the chain.
In the U14 Development our training focus was based on acquiring skills, run and carry, decision making and most importantly been coachable. The training sessions have all been well attended with the players almost always calling if they are unable to attend which is a sign that players are starting to take responabitly of their actions. This squad has come a long way during there time together and the bonding has been great with a lot of quite achievers starting to shine though.I feel that the time the boys spent together in this group as well at club level is very important on and off the field. It is always a hard decision as a coach as to who gets into the final Interleague Team and who misses out. To those boys that did missed out I am sure you have come away from the experience a better person and a better skilled footballer for your efforts, work hard for next year and who knows what might happen?
Game one at Casey Fields we came up against Mornington and we matched up well size wise. The boys came out firing and the midfield dominated and we scored freely with our forwards working hard to maintain the ball. Up the other end of the ground the backline was tight throughout the game and played attacking accountable football. Injures forced two of our players from the field in Matt and Jack and I am happy to report all is well with these boys. In the final quater we rested some of the hard working midfield and this allowed Mornington to take the last quarter points from us, but the win was a strong one with the main highlight for me being the sheer body power we had all day and running style of game we played. With a five goal win and having seen Frankston win by 10 goals against this team I knew we were in with a chance.
Game two on the big arena at Shepley oval Dandenong saw the boys came to play. We once again got off to a good start which set up a lead that the opposition slowly started to chip away at. Frankston took the next two quarters on the points system and this set up what was to be a great last quater of football in which made for a endurance race to which the boys responded very well taking the quater by 6 points and thus winning the game by 14 points and taking out the Championships for 2009.
Special thanks to all the boys who were very gallant over the carnival. There their were some very weary bodies at the end of the day, you all stuck to the team rules and the game plan, well done. To the Team Leaders Hayden, Jack and Will great leadership was shown over the two days. People that I need to thank are Andrew Welsh for his role as Team Manger who has been there for the complete journey for the helpers on the day in Mark, Paul, Doddy, Peter, Connell, Gavin and Jnr thanks for your effort in getting this Team together and staying on track over the 16 weeks.
