On Tuesday 7th October 2014, our General Manager Mr Keith WELLMAN received an e-mail from Mr Gerard RYAN who is the Community Football Operations Manager with AFL Victoria. The e-mail is dated 7th October 2014 and in brief it states :-
AFL Victoria Country Championships 2015
HOST 2015 Fixture
(1 v 2) Goulburn Valley F.L. Geelong FNL v Goulburn Valley F.L.
(3 V 4) Ovens & Murray F.L. Peninsula FNL v Ovens & Murray F.L.
(5 v 6) Ballarat F.L. Ballarat FNL v Bendigo FNL
(7 v 8) Hampden F.L. Hampden FNL v Murray FNL
Championship games to be played over the week-end 23rd / 24th May - we will have a General Bye in our GVFL 2015 fixture for this game. Further good news is that each League in the Country Championships in 2015 will be eligible for funding of $5,500 (exc GST).
Fixturing of Under 17 / 18 football matches or netball matches is based upon arrangements between the competing Leagues. No funding is available at this stage for Under 17 / 18 football matches or netball matches in 2015 through AFL Victoria Country.
Other than no funding four Under 18's or netball, this really is great news that we can take on Geelong at Deakin Reserve - remember last year? We were No. 1 and had to travel down to Kardinia Park to take on the challengers Geelong. It seems the rule is that at present is that the No. 2 team, the Challenger, takes on the No. 1 team at the Challengers home ground. As somene famous once said, "we'll fight them on the beaches - we'll fight them anywhere - but it's certainly nice to fight them at home."
Well Done to ALL involved who have arranged this fixture. Go the Mighty GV !!!!!!!!
