Wilkie rises to world number two
Brett Wilkie - Australian bowls representative in the men’s singles and pairs disciplines has risen to be ranked number two in the world behind fellow Australian Leif Selby* on the rankings results table issued this week.
Wilkie will be the highest ranked male competing in the Asia Pacific Championships held in Adelaide, Australia from November 30 to December 11.
He leads the charge against some of the best male bowlers in the world attending the event including fellow teammate Aron Sherriff (#5), Malaysia’s Sufan Said (#3); Ratish Lal from Fiji (#10) and Tee Chiak Chia from Singapore (#11)
In the women’s event, current world number one and reigning World Champion of Champions Jo Edwards, who hails from New Zealand, leads the world’s top female bowlers in the competition which also includes fellow team-mate Val Smith (#3), Australia’s Karen Murphy (#4); Sita Zalina Ahmad from Malaysia (#5); Jan Kahn (NZL) at #7; Australia’s Kelsey Cottrell (#8), Philippines’ Rosita Bradbon (#10); Tammy Tham (#10) from Hong Kong and and Litia Tikoisuva from Fiji currently ranked #12.
The Asia Pacific Championships runs from November 30 to December 11 in Adelaide and comprises 15 men’s and 13 women’s teams from the region. It is a precursor to the World Championships to be held in Adelaide in 2012.
