What The Papers Said About Our Steelers This Week
Steelers Men Show Their Steely Resolve
BY ROY WARD
6 March 2012
Western Port Steelers men went down to Hawthorn Magic at Western Port on Saturday, but showed plenty of positive signs ahead of their season opener
The division 2 Steelers went into the clash without prime movers Chris Jones and Vlad Tankov, but fought hard to go down 68-60 to the strong division 1 Magic outfit
Luke Bennett started in the absence of Tankov and was impressive at both ends. He should he would be a valuable bench player for the Steelers
“It’s great to see a young bloke come in and do well,” Western Port general manager Marc Pirrotta said
The Steelers were well served by Matt Williams, who scored 22 points and was particularly effective in the second half.
“He took the game by the scruff of the neck,” Pirrotta said
The Steelers girls squandered a 31-11 lead to lose by a point in their clash against Cranbourne, with both Melissa Carter and Keira Beswick missing the clash
The youth league division 2 boys were beaten 100-76 by Hawthorn, with Ivan Dukanac scoring an incredible 15 three-pointers for the Magic
The Steelers kick off their Big V campaign with a triple header against Mornington at Somerville Recreation Centre on Saturday, March 17
