What The Papers Said About Our Steelers This Week

Lady Steelers To Regroup After Second Loss

Western Port Lady Steelers have a week of soul searching after their second consecutive loss in Big V basketball on Saturday night

Steelers General Manager, Marc Pirrotta, said the 60-43 loss to Blackburn stung because of the manner in which they played

The Steelers coughed up 32 turnovers and shot at just 24% from the floor, a worrying trend for coach Janine Davies.

“The coach is very aware of what is required and what she needs to do and so on,” Pirrotta said

“We won the first 3 (games) pretty well, but have not played well in the last couple.”

Steelers star Keira Beswick suffered a rare quiet game, with just 6 points and 11 rebounds.

For Blackburn, Lauren Hoare (17 points, 13 rebounds) and Emily McLeod (12 points, 8 rebounds) dominated the contest

“We started off well with a 15-8 lead at quarter-time but only scored 28 points over the last 2 quarters,” Pirrotta said

The Steelers youth league men’s 2 team won their matches over the weekend. On Saturday night the Steelers defeated Craigieburn 73-49 with Kade Marra, Ricki Dehaan and Sean Hogenbirk putting in strong performances. Western Port then upset Coburg 66-49 on Sunday
