DOHA: LEGENDARY Filipino basketball player Alan Caidic is set to lead a three-day youth camp in Doha from July 13 to 15. The camp is an initiative of Pinoy Basketball of Qatar (Pibaq).

The formal announcement of the upcoming event was made at the award ceremony of the Youth and Mini Fun League at Concorde Hotel recently.

The event was attended by Cultural Attache at the Philippine Embassy John Jiao, Pibaq Youth Director Coach Francis Albert Mercado and Pibaq President and Head of SBP (Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas) Referees and Sports Development Program in Qatar Pat Carido.

According to Carido, the camp which is open to all interested Filipino youths aged between 12 and 18 years would be an exclusive event for 50 participants.

"This is the first time that we will do such an activity where no spectators and videos would be allowed. The session would be a personalised tutorial by Caidic who is renowned in the Philippine basketball history," Carido told Qatar Tribune on Monday.

Carido added,"Since we have been conducting youth leagues in the past, we decided to come up with this special course featuring a highly-experienced and widely popular personality. The camp is an opportunity for youths contemplating a career in basketball in the Philippines to learn nuances of the game. It will also give Caidic a chance to scout for talents in Qatar since he is also managing a school for San Miguel and with La Salle University."

Admission fee to the three-day youth camp is QR400 for each participant and includes a dry-fit Allan Caidic t-shirt.

He also mentioned the upcoming events of Pibaq including a game featuring Batang Gilas National Team on July 18 and 19.

The awarding ceremony was attended by Pibaq Youth Coaches Ferdinan Rodriguez, Bryan Tolentino, Willy Layag and Jojo Longalong. The awardees included Severino Jose Tamayo from Red Team and Jacob Xavier Horataleza from Gray Team as Most Valuable Players in the Mini Fun League Division.
