Red Devils Sign Talented Youngsters

Redlands United have added 19 year-old Tasmanian product George Kamano to their squad as one of two new signings.

The young forward signed for the Red Devils over the Easter break and arrived for a trial on the recommendation of midfielder Igor Sao Jose, who previously coached Kamano in Tasmania.

Kamano scored nine goals last year for University of Tasmania in the state’s third-tier Southern Premier Division, but previously played for the second-tier Glenorchy Knights in the PlayStation 4 Victory League 2013 campaign.

Kamano is one of two new signings for the bayside club, who have also added former Olympic FC junior Christian Trovato to their squad in recent weeks.

The 17-year-old made his senior debut for the Red Devils in their 1-0 away defeat to defending PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland® Premiers Palm Beach SC.

Despite proving competitive so far this season the Red Devils remain without a win after their opening five matches of the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaign.

However, according to Player-Coach Graham Fyfe the injection of the two youngsters remains part of the club’s long-term development policy that focuses on identifying and nurturing young talent.

“It’s about the long-term and giving young players the chance in a first team environment, playing and training and pushing them along," Fyfe explained.

“That way, when we do start winning, and I believe we will, it will be for years to come not just for a couple of weeks."

“We've missed a few games by the odd goal so far this year, and we do have some experienced players out with injury, but we want to give young players a chance and we believe these two boys have lots of potential which is great for the club,” he concluded.

Kamano’s signing continues a trend of former Tasmanian league players moving to the Sunshine State, with Redlands’ Joel Stone and Brisbane City’s Curran Ferns previously plying their trade in Apple Isle.

Redlands expect Kamano to make his first competitive appearance for the club this weekend against third-placed early season surprise packets Western Pride at Briggs Road Complex in Ipswich.
