Sharks are unofficial junior varsity champs

All scenarios needed to win the boys' high school junior varsity championship title are out the window because of two results last week - Samoana beating Tafuna 1-0 and Leone losing to Faga'itua 6-3 on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium. What this means is Samoana is the unofficial champion of boys' high school soccer.
Samoana is now the unofficial champion of the junior varsity division after beating the Warriors to collect 12 points to Tafuna and Faga'itua's 4. Leone and the Wildcats have one apiece while the Dolphins are at 0.
The Sharks will be on a three-week break because these next two weeks their school plays against the Crusaders and Stallions, teams that do not have J-V squads. The third week is an off week for all high schools because of Spring Break (week of April 13-17).
Their final opponent is Leone on Saturday, April 25, 2009 and a loss or tie in that game will not affect their overall lead in anyway.
The most points any team other than Samoana can finish with this season is 10. If either Tafuna, Faga'itua , Leone or Nu'uuli Voc-Tech win all of their remaining games, then one of these four teams will be two points shy of Samoana's current 12.
Thus, a defeat or tie in their last game of the season still gives them the best record and most points to earn this year's title, which also happens to be back-to-back championships.
The title will become official following the conclusion of the junior varsity division on April 25.
This Saturday there are only two J-V matches with Leone taking on SPA at 8 o'clock in the morning on Field #2 while at 9:45 a.m. the Wildcats, back after a bye week, take on the Vikings on Field #1.
SHARKS 1, WARRIORS 0
It was a momentum game with Tafuna holding it first for much of the first half and then Samoana having it for part of the first and most of the second, and that included Mavaega Tainamu's breakaway goal in the 52nd that turned out to be the game winner.
Tainamu, on one of about three through balls to him finally managed to beat Tafuna's goalie with a hard right to the goalie's bottom right-hand corner of the net.
There were many other missed chances by both teams but great defenses held to make it a 1-0 game.
VIKINGS 6, LIONS 3
Three goals by Faga'itua in the first half helped put the game away with them as they went into the break leading 3-1.
Two minutes into the match Mikaele Nansen scored for Faga'itua while Afa Amituana'i scored two straight goals, one in the 13th and the other in the 29th to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.
Paea Paea finally put the Lions on the board with a goal in the 32nd.
Amituana'i completed a hat trick with his third goal in the 51st while Roy Luani added one of his own in the 59th for a 5-1 Vikings lead.
Nansen completed a double on the day with his second goal in the 61st for a 6-1 score.
Bobby Nu'usila then scored Leone's last two goals in the 63rd and 74th minutes for a final 6-3 score.
