High School Basketball Update
In Interscholastic Basketball games last night the Xavier Navigators defeated Berea Christian. Xavier High School (XHS) exhibited tough inside play, sharp defense and excellent passing which led to the victory.
The young men of Chuuk High School (CHS) defeated Saramen Chuuk Academy in a hotly contested game at the CHS gym.
In the boy's league the emerging "teams to beat" appear to be Chuuk High School and Xavier, both with strong inside players.
Girls in Chuuk have had problems getting court time and respect, and those problems continue in some schools that think "girls' shouldn't play basketball."
Nonetheless, The girls' league saw high school basketball history being made when two women's coaches appeared on the court guiding Weno High School (WHS) and Chuuk High School(CHS). The game was hard fought with WHS claiming victory. Congratulations to both coaches and teams. It is through such small steps and with dedicated young women that the sport grows.
