March Madness- Day 6 Highlights

Kolonia, Pohnpei- Over the weekend on Day 6 & Day 7 of the 2012 Pohnpei Basketball March Madness Tournamnet teams competed on deciding matches on who is to claim #1 rank in their respective groups and some on "to-or-die" matches on who is to advance into the second preliminaries which already kicked-off on Monday March 19. First action of the day was between COM Sharks and Pingelap-Kihdeleng. Kihdeleng secured the "W" in the final period with fast break plays and an impressive 3 point shooting by #24 Vincent Malfin. The final score was 75-63 and next up for Kihdeleng is Visual Impact which was scheduled in the evening of the same day.
In the second match of Day 6 was between Kolonia and Sapwuafik. This is a deciding game for both team. Sapwuafik needed the victory to advance to the second preliminaries and Kolonia the game will determine a #1 ranking in Pool A. It was a close game from opening tip to crunch time and Kolonia came out the victors in this one with a 76-71 score. Hayworth (#4) broke the tournament high scoring with 43 pts and to back him up are Tommy (#5) and Willy Hawley Jr. (#14) with 14 pts and 10 pts. Entrickson Alex (#32) high scored for Sapwu with 30 pts and Rohny (#51) contributing 22 pts.
In their final game of pool play, it seems like the Out-Laws made it a tradition by blowing out all their opponents. In their match against the Mojukese, they out-scored them by 27 pts (87-55 score). Mojukese are having a hard time passing their full court pressure and man-to-man defence, from start to finish. Kezin Jr. (#6) scored 19 pts and Anthony Simram (#15) and Austin Saimon (#7) each registered 10 pts for the Out-Laws. Lery Kohper (#5) top scored for Mojukese with 20 pts and the only player in double figures.
In the fourth match in the evening was a deciding game between Kapinga and P4 A.K.A Ng, the victors will advance to the second prelims. In a first half sea-saw with ties and tie breaks, P4 A.K.A Ng pulled away in the second half and won by a 12 point margin (64-52). P4 now claimed a spot in the second preliminaries and will have the chance to qualify for the quarter-finals. As usual, Tommy Lucios (#24) once again top scored for P4 A.K.A Ng with 26 pts and Bobby Celestine (#7) with 14 pts, Wallace Jacob (#13) donating 8 pts. Jackie (#14) from Kapinga made 21 pts for Kapinga.
Despite their previous match earlier in the day, Kihdeleng were adversary and showed determination in their second match in the evening against Visual Impact. They came out victorious in their match with a 54-48 score against Visual Impact and now claimed the #1 rank in Pool D. Junior (#11) puts up 14 pts and Micheal (#23) backing him up with 11pts. Branson Kohper (#24) was the score leader for Visual Impact with 19 pts and backing him up was Joseph Artui (#6) and Mike (#9) with 6 pts and 7 pts.
