The Yap Junior Basketball League run by the Yap Basketball Association (YBA) is planning to get underway on Thursday 3rd July 2008. The league will then continue with regular matches played every Monday. Wednesday and Friday evenings at the Sports Complex.

Over the past week a number of teams have been preparing themselves for what will be tough competition in the Under 19 Years Basketball League. To assist them in their preparations, both the Kaday and Yap Neighbouring Islands basketball teams have had visits to their training sessions by visiting Australian Basketball Coach Ryan Burns.

Both basketball clubs have found the visits very benficial to the development of the skills of both their players and coaches.  Coach Burns has assisted them with implenting some basic offensive structure as well as focusing on the important skills of basketball including running, dribbling, passing, layups and shooting. There has also been an emphasis on man to man defence during match play to encourage the development of individual defensive skills.

The sessions have had a positive affect on the teams and given them good direction before their first matches in the Junior League. "I am really looking forward to the Junior League" said Coach Burns. "It will be great to see some of these teams in action, putting what they have learned into practice."

All spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend the Yap Junior League. Hope to see you there!
