Saints and Shaq face off in final
THE Suva Laucala Basket-ball League will end in style tomorrow at the Vodafone Arena as Shaq Attaq and Saints clash in the final. Shaq captain Laisiasa Puamau said that their greatest strength lay in their height advantage and experience. "We will need to play big against a much smaller and faster Saints outfit," Puamau said. "Another advantage that the team has is that the Shaq players have been playing together for a very long time while Saints have been fast tracked into revival mode with the return of Saints' captain Leonard Whippy." The winner of tomorrow's game will go into the Easter Championships as the number one team from Suva and will face champion sides from Raiwaqa, Lautoka and Nadi. Suva-Laucala media liaison Jojiana Gavidi is very excited for both teams. "This is the culmination of our league games and everyone is definitely looking forward to this," Gavidi said. "It is going to be a real tough one." On the women's side, Knights are the number one team in the Suva-Laucala Association. The team, led by former national rep Nunia Buli, will be tough to beat in the Easter's next week. Although the focus is on the upcoming Easter Club Championships, Basketball Fiji has not lost focus on their grassroots development programs, which have been implemented in six primary schools in Suva and Lautoka.
"The Junior Coaching Cl-inics run during physical education classes, lunch hours and after schools at Latter Day Saints Primary School, John Wesley Prim-ary, Stella Marist, Interna-tional Primary, Drasa Ave-nue (Lautoka) and Holy Tr-inity as they gear up for the Primary Schools Compe-tition in both Suva and La-utoka on June 4," Puamau said. Similar programs run at the Raiwaqa Ed's Court for interested junior players.
