Tough games at Ed's court

ANOTHER tough round of competition was held at the Eds Court as the Raiwaqa Basketball Association weekly competition continues yesterday.

Although competition started late because of the late arrival of most teams, the standard of competition continued to lift another notch.

Raiwaqa Basketball official Etuate Waqai-rawai said all teams playing in the weekly competition have been coming well prepared for their matches.

Waqairawai said another reason why competition has been getting tougher in the past couple of weeks was because of the fact that a big number of teams from the association will be represented at next week's National Basket-ball Club Championships in Lautoka.

"We've been experiencing some very tough mat-ches in the last few weeks and this is not good for competition in the association but will also help our clubs especially when they go out to play in tournaments such as the Club Championships," Waqairawai said.

Six Raiwaqa teams have entered this weekend's Club Champion-ships.

Raiwaqa competition co-ordinator Saula Koroi said the six teams that will be travelling down to Lautoka next weekend have been preparing well and all are looking forward to a good outing in the Sugar City.

The six Raiwaqa teams that have will be playing include Bryceland, Wai-donu, Veterans, Boston, Idaman and Mighty Mig-hts. Fiji Basketball Development officer Lai Puamau and Koroi were in Lautoka to conduct a referees clinic with Lautoka basketball officials.

Koroi said the main aim of the clinic was to help Lautoka officials as they will be officiating at next weekend's tournament.

Yesterday's competition was opened by the women's clash between Cougars and Knights.

Cougars won 35-19.
