Veterans in fine form

Tuvili Cinavi trophy holders, Veterans started their Boston Basketball Championship campaign on a winning note -- dethroning G-Unit 25-18 on Friday night. The win was a replay of the Raiwaqa Basketball Tuvili Cinavi challenge match last weekend where the veterans walked away with the trophy. Laced with former national reps -- the likes of Peniasi Kainamoli, Peni Ratumaiyale, Sowane Tamani, Josevata Koboutawa and Joe Cash, Veterans looked promising with their slow but sure performance on the court. Boston basketball official Waisea Dau said the tournament started on a high note. Dau favoured the Veterans to win the tournament. "I believe Veterans will be the team to beat. They easily won their first game and surely they'll continue with their winning form. "They had some former national reps that played an instrumental role against G-Unit." He said they expected the tournament to be more exciting in the knockout stages today. The quarter-final of the Post Fiji-sponsored tournament starts at 4pm today. In other matches, Saints beat Idaman 28-13 while Shaq Attack overcame Pitbulls 30-23 and Warriors beat Mighty Might 25-13. Golden Bati beat Knights 30-8 and NDP White upset Wed C in the women's competition.
