THE Lautoka Basket-ball Association is keen to develop the sport in the sugar city. Yesterday, the LBA staged its third junior clinic at the Multi-Purpose Courts which attracted over 20 players. Newly appointed LBA development officer Emily Chambers said interest in the sport was high. She said the number of participants had gradually increased. "The aim is to strengthen the grassroots level," Chambers said. "We are targeting kids between the ages of 6-15 years. The response is overwhelming. The numbers have increased from the first clinic. The kids are being taught the basics." Drasa Avenue School is the first in Lautoka to be actively involved in junior development. Under the guidance of Atunaisa Qabale, Drasa Avenue School has mapped out a sound development program. Chambers said they hoped to involve other schools in their development efforts. She said they were waiting for funds to start a junior competition. "This will involve both the primary and secondary school children," Chambers said. The next round of the junior clinic will be held next Saturday.
