Young hopefuls turn up for clinic

SUVA/LAUCALA Basketball president Leonard Whippy was very happy yesterday after conducting his first coaching clinic for children. Although the turnout was not so good, he was happy with the performances of those that came. "There was a mix-up in the venues but still we had a good time and it is the beginning of more clinics to come," said Whippy. "This is the first clinic we are running since Easter and we had about 13 children. Last time we had our clinic we had close to about 30 interested children. I am hoping the numbers will increase in the coming weeks. "We aim to have these clinics running for eight weeks and then have competitions. Preferably a youth league." Whippy said the Suva-Laucala Basketball Association will be starting their league games in "two to three weeks". "The league will run for about two to three months. We are all still relaxing after tough competition at the Easter Championship but we will soon be up and running in the coming weeks."
