Wesley leads on points in U17

The first timers in Under-17 Suva Secondary Schools Basketball League (SSSBL), John Wesley College (JWC) is leading the points tally. JWC is looking forward to developing a formidable side to be able to match the giants of the game. “This year we are just learning the sport and if we win the league, then it will be a bonus for my side,” coach, Waisale Suka said. He said their success so far was due to the discipline they have in the squad. “The boys are very committed and dedicated towards training.” He added that everyone was surprised to see the level of talent displayed by the youngsters. Suka highlighted they were very grateful to the school principal, who allowed the side to take part in the competition. “We have a lot of support from everyone in the school,” said the coach. However, the Laucala Bay Secondary team official, Isimeli Vatuwalewale said: “we tell the boys to enjoy the sport.” He said it was just their second year and they were still at a learning curve. The side made it to the quarterfinals last year and will look forward to better that fleet. “We are just trying something new, so that these kids are not left out,” Vatuwalewale said. Laucala Bay Secondary played against JWC at the Ed’s Court in Raiwaqa yesterday.
