$10,000 boost for secondary schools basketball competition

BASKETBALL Fiji received a major boost ahead of the National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship which starts next week Monday in Suva.

This after Twisties handed over a cheque worth $10,000 (increase of $5000 from last year) to association president Brigadier Iowane Naivalarua yesterday at their head office in Vatuwaqa.

Goodman Fielder Limited general manager Shaun Joils said Twisties was proud and excited to partner with Basketball Fiji for the third year running in promoting youth development through this sponsorship. The five-day long event will see 17 secondary schools from the Central and Western divisions competing at Raiwaqa's Ed's Court and the Vodafone Arena in Laucala.

"In addition to this year's annual national championship, Twisties has also taken on the secondary school basketball league that takes place for the duration of the second term," Joils said.

"Twisties is committed to the development of basketball in Fiji and this sponsorship gives the brand the avenue to reinforce this commitment."

In thanking Twisties, Naivalurua said they had noticed a lot of improvement in the young aspiring basketball players' skills and discipline.

He said the return of the investment was evident in the increased number of young and skilful basketball players around the country.

"This huge sponsorship will not only help us run and conduct the game, bring smiles on the faces of young men and women's but also develop future potential world class players in the years to come," Naivalurua said.

"This sponsorship will help keep young people on track and away from criminal activities. It will keep them together and teach them to be good citizens of this country."
